Yes I know it's spelled holiday, but it just seemed fitting to misspell it this time, on this special page I have created to wish everyone a very merry Independence Day weekend. Good boating, good skiing, good surfing, good bar-b-que, just plain good everything! Check back Saturday and Sunday. Bye, y'all.
We went the Farmer's Market yesterday. Oh, those vine ripe tomatoes, strawberries, peaches, plums(as big as the peaches), okra, cukes and watermelons. Now on my version of Texas Barbequed brisket.
Get a 5 to 6lb. well trimmed brisket, an 18oz. bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce, and a large, covered roasting pan. Put brisket in pan, pour entire bottle of BBQ sauce over it to cover, put on lid, cook in 350 oven for 2-3hrs. Slice and enjoy! Serve with those vine ripe tomatoes, some Texas sweet 1015Y onions, cole slaw, potato salad, corn-on-the-cob, frijoles, and some fried okra, too. Slice up an ice-cold watermelon for dessert, and some home-made peach ice cream(whoops!, must start the cranking on that freezer FIRST!).
Punch the kids will love: mix up 2 L. fruit drink or kool-aid, 1-1/2 L. orange juice, and 2 L. 7up, sprite or ginger ale.
Sheppard AFB has a really big fireworks display tonight, and thanks to the flat Texas plains, we can see it from our own front yard!
